Helen Weinman's Quilts: Color by Number
Most schools do not offer sewing as a class or after school activity. There is a gap that needs to be filled. More than just a color by number book, this book is designed to teach children of all ages about color choices. The same quilt is pictured on facing pages. They are color coded (by number) so that when the quilts are colored in, the results look different. It is a lesson that demonstrates to adults, and now children, that design is secondary to fabric (and color) choices. The identical layout is repeated, without numbers, in the back of the coloring book so the child can use their imagination in creating their own design, if desired.
If a child shows interest in the coloring process, then maybe he/she will say “Grandma (Mom-Aunt-Friend), I want to make this quilt, may I?” What follows can be the construction of the desired quilt. The pieces are large to enable young fingers to easily handle and sew the fabric, complete the quilt, and increase the child’s manual dexterity.
The personal satisfaction for the child and the supervising adult, of a completed quilt is fantastic. The quilts can be used as doll quilts, lap or couch quilts, framed as a wall hanging, or made into a pillow. The patterns with diagrams are available on a CD or in print and are sewn by hand or machine. Kits complete with directions and fabric (reproduced according to the coloring book) are available to be sewn by hand or machine. Please see ordering information on the back inside cover.
Have fun coloring. Have fun bonding with your children, grandchildren, nieces, nephews, friends or students. Children will cherish the experience and, who knows, maybe they, too, will become a quilter (lucky them)!

2010 Heart Token & Internet Promotion Rules
The 2009 “Red Heart” promotion was wonderful and
successful for everyone. Thank you to those who
participated. A few words of explanation for those of
you who couldn’t use their hearts in 2009. This
promotion should be called the “3rd visit to HBQ promotion”.
It was designed to get customers in the store for the 3rd
visit during the calendar year. Certainly many of you
are here daily (applause). The rules are set Jan 1 for
the upcoming year and are not changed midstream. You,
the customer, have 2 months in which to redeem your red
heart—November and December ONLY and ONLY IN STORE.
We’ve heard excuses concerning bad weather, flat tires, sick
relatives, HBQ closing for Christmas week, etc.
Basically, we’ve heard them all. We give you 2 entire
months to redeem your heart for the year. We always
close the week before Christmas and our website reminds you
about the rules and the days HBQ is not open. I am
truly sorry if you can’t participate but everyone is given
the same opportunity on an equal basis.
2010 RED HEART PROMOTION
1. Visit HBQ in 2010 and make a purchase.
Ask for a “blue card” which will have your name and date you
came into the store for the first 2010 visit.
2. Visit HBQ a 2nd time in 2010 and make a
purchase. Return your “blue card” and receive the Red
Heart, branded on both sides.
3. Return to our store, November
1-December 31, 2010 (excluding HBQ “closed” vacation days)
and make a MINIMUM purchase of $100 (excluding tax) and you
will receive (2) $25.00 HBQ Special Gift Certificates, valid
Jan 1, 2011-June 30, 2011 for in store purchases only.
These Special Gift certificates are not redeemable on the
same visit and are limited to a total of $50 per customer.
FAQs (Frequently Asked Questions)
1. Customers who cannot redeem their
hearts during Nov-Dec can gift them to a friend to use, on
the condition that the friend hasn’t already used or will
use a heart. This is ONE PER CUSTOMER.
2. The $100 purchase does not include tax.
3. There is no cash value to the heart.
4. Internet or mail-order sales are not
included—only those purchases for in-store merchandise
count, i.e. no advance orders, no classes, no gift
certificates, no quilt camp fees.
2010 INTERNET-MAIL-ORDER PROMOTION
I’ve had numerous requests from our Internet and mail-order
customers for a promotion for 2010, so here goes:
1. For every $500 in internet purchases
(shipping and sales tax excluded) you will receive a $50
Special Gift Certificate, valid ONLY November 1- December
31, 2010, for in store merchandise.
The purchase of gift certificates, classes, camps, is
specifically excluded.
2. The Special Gift Certificates have no
cash value.
3. Each Special Gift Certificate must be
used at one time on merchandise you purchase (unused
balances will not be carried over or transferred). Special
Gift Certificates are not valid on punch cards, gift
certificates, classes, camps, and special orders.
4. There is NO limit to the number of
Special $50 Gift Certificates per customer.
5. We will keep track for you on your
Internet Customer Account with Heartbeat. If you are a
mail-order customer we will create the account and, upon
request, will advise you of your progress. You must
have an EMAIL address in order to participate.
6. There is NO co-mingling of
Internet/Mail-Order promotions and in store “Heart”
promotions. Customers may participate in both
promotions separately.
Please email or call us with any questions. We want
you to have fun with these opportunities. This is an
extra benefit to Heartbeat customers. Your shopping
with us frequently is my goal and your satisfied shopping
experience is what Heartbeat is all about. We thank
you for your patronage. We couldn’t do it without you.

We are very sad to say that we have lost 3 quilter friends
in the recent past:
CAROL SEAVEY, of Cumberland, Maine, has been a friend of
Heartbeat Quilts for many years, attending quilt camp with
her best friend, Maria Edwards, on a regular basis. She
passed from cancer and will be remembered specifically at
our Relay for Life event in June.
ELEANOR MEANEY, of South Yarmouth, Ma (Cape Cod), one of the
most talented quilters we've ever seen and a friend for 20
years, passed away from cancer. She too, will be remembered
specifically at our Relay for Life event in June.
CAROLYN FICKS, of Denmark, Maine, the niece of Gretchen
Holmes formerly of Sagamore Beach, Ma. participated in Quilt
Camp for many years along with Gretchen and enjoyed her
life, which was taken too prematurely. She was in a fatal
car accident and she will be missed very much by Gretchen,
her family and friends and all of us at Heartbeat. |

Sylivia Weinman

January 26, 1914 - July 31, 2007
Thank you for your cards and emails expressing condolences
for the recent passing of Helen's Mom, Sylvia Weinman. She
was almost 94 and lived a very full and productive life. She
was part of Heartbeat Quilts for many years, entertaining
customers with her stories, wit, and sage advice. She will
be missed by all who knew and loved her. |
