General Information For All Classes

  • We maintain a no-refund, no-exchange, no-credit policy on all classes, weekend camps and tours (unless cancelled by Heartbeat Quilts, in which case a full cash refund will be made). There are no exceptions, please don't ask.
  • There is no refund for missed sessions in a series.
  • Children and/or guests are NOT PERMITTED at any time.
  • No cell phone permitted in the classroom.
  • Materials for workshops are an additional fee unless otherwise stated.
  • Copying of books and/or patterns is NEVER PERMITTED. Almost every workshop requires the purchase of a book or pattern.
  • Sewing machine classes require that you bring your machine to class and have a working knowledge of its uses.
  • Unless otherwise specified, working knowledge of rotary cutting equipment is required.
  • Workshop materials must be purchased prior to the day of the class. Come to class prepared to learn to sew.
  • Workshops start on time. Instructors cannot repeat missed information. In the case of series classes, missed classes cannot be made up. We try help you in every way we can during regular working hours.
  • Most classes are hands-on sewing; read class descriptions carefully.
  • Please DO NOT wear any strong perfumes, scented hairsprays or scented lotions to class. Be courteous to those fellow quilters who are allergic to these items. Thank you for your consideration of other's health.

QUILTER’S ACADEMY: FRESHMAN YEAR, SATURDAYS: 9am-Noon (except where noted), $20.00 per session. Dates: 2/4, 2/11, 2/18, 3/10, 3/17, 3/24, 4/7, 4/28, 5/5
The first course book “Freshman Year” teaches basics such as accurate cutting and piecing (1” squares). Covers equipment, sewing areas, many tools and gadgets, basics of base grids, simple drafting, selecting fabric, piecing borders, mitering corners and even more. The projects are small and each builds on previous lessons. This is all machine sewing. The course is 30 hours and you pay as you go, session by session. You must take the course in sequential order.  Sewing Machine

QUILTER’S ACADEMY: SOPHOMORE YEAR, SUNDAYS : 9am-Noon, $25.00 per session. Dates: 2/5, 2/12, 2/19, 3/11, 3/18, 3/25
This course follows Freshman Year. You will learn how to put quilts “On Point”, with or without sashing. How to calculate setting triangles and corner triangle. You must have taken the Quilter's Academy: Freshman Year to sign up for this class. Sewing Machine

SCRAP CLASS: 3/25 - 1pm-2pm & 4/29 - 10am-3pm, $50.00 for both classes.
Join Helen to learn to play with fabric for scrap quilts. A one-hour March 25 organizational meeting will lead to a five-hour sewing spree. Helen gives you ideas and patterns to help you create fabulous scrap quilts. Sewing Machine

TWO FOR ONE WITH MARY: 2/26 - 9am-3pm, $60/two sewers or $45 for one sewer
Select from several books and patterns, according to your skill level. Bring a friend and you pay ONLY ONE FEE. This is a great way to start quilting and sewing with friends.  Sewing Machine

MACHINE APPLIQUE: 3/31 - 9am-3pm, $45.00/person
Marjatta will guide you through several techniques for Machine Appliqué. Learn to master Satin Stitch, Buttonhole Stitch and more.  Sewing Machine

INTRODUCTION TO BALTIMORE ALBUM: Tue 2/7, 3/6, 4/3 and 5/1, 1pm-4pm, $90/4 sessions
Start a Baltimore Album Quilt; make a pillow or a wall hanging—whatever you choose. Blocks have been carefully selected to include: reverse appliqué, freezer paper appliqué, ¼” stems, 3 ruched flower techniques, dimensional appliqué, perfect circles, embellishments and Broderie Perse.  Spool

WILLIAM MORRIS IN APPLIQUE: Tue 2/14, 3/13, 4/10 and 5/8, 1pm-4pm, $90/4 sessions
From the book by Michele Hill who was inspired by the genius of William Morris. Marge feels this is an easy introduction to Baltimore Album designs and you will be on your way to your own sampler. Fabric choices will be decided with Marge before classes begin.  Spool
